- - - - Complications that can arise following a scalp laceration include moderate to severe bleeding. The scalp contains a large amount of blood vessels which can increase the chances of significant blood loss. This blood loss needs to be treated promptly to decrease severe blood loss. Scalp lacerations are typically closed with staples. Infection is another risk secondary to a scalp laceration, an infection needs to be identified and treated quickly to prevent further complications such as the spread of the infection.
- - - - Complications of this type of trauma include significant bleeding at the wound site, severe pain, infection and damage to the brain which could result in brain haemorrhage and increase intra cranial pressure leading to further brain damage.
- - - - Causes of/Risk factors for a haematoma include injury to the head, being above the age of 65 and taking anticoagulant medications
        
        The complications that can arise from a haematoma include altered level of consciousness, severe haemorrhage, confusion, nausea, vomiting and coma, either short-term or permanent. Prognosis following this type of TBI is dependent on the severity of the injury, patients with an altered GCS following the injury typically have an increased chance of a negative outcome.
