Rhythm of Heart Beats
-
- Signals from SA node spread through the atria
- Signals delayed at AV node
- Bundle branches pass signals to the heart apex
- Signals spread throughout ventricles (with the help of Purkinje fibers)
These four steps of the electrical impulses in the heart are displayed in an electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG)

Route of Blood Flow
Right atrium (oxygen-poor blood)--> AV valve--> right ventricle--> semilunar valve--> pulmonary artery--> capillaries of the lungs--> pulmonary vein--> left atrium--> AV valve--> left ventricle--> semilunar valve--> aorta--> capillaries of head and forelimbs--> superior and inferior vena cava--> right atrium
In the capillaries of the lungs are the head/forelimbs, the blood becomes oxygen-rich as gas exchange occurs
