Sangiovese is dominant, often blends with other varieties, Chianti DOCG
higher quality Chianti DOCG made from grpes from a particular sub-zone, such as Chianti Rufina DOCG and Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG
Chianti Classico DOCG has its own DOCG, not a sub-zone, must be aged fro 12 months
ChiantiClassico Riserva DOCG must be aged for 24 months, at least 3 month in bottle, Gran Selezione is highest for Chianti Clssico, aged for 6 months longer than Riserva
Southern Tuscany

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
must be made entirely from Sangiovese and undergo a minimum ageing of five years, of which 2 years must be in oak
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
can be blended other varieties must be aged for a minimum two years. both can declassify to DOC, suc as poor vintage or vines are very young

Montepulciano d'Aburzzo DOC: high colour and tannins, medium acidity, black plum, cherry. many are simple and fruity, some can age in oak for a short time
