Twitter Tribes: If influencers are measured in twitter followers, let's onboard these groups as tribes.
Skin in the Game: when we give support (even $0.25) it changes who we are in the world. Theory: Having skin in the game is more likely to get out the actual vote.
Presentation
Maybe use different examples: Climate Change, Citizens United, Keystone Pipeline (Big, Complex, HOT HOT)
Function
What if Pulse could connect us to REAL people and organizations ON THE GROUND (like the specific groups fighting the key stone pipeline). This could be a user preference?
We are going to give you the "power" of the vote, between elections. We are going to help you let your representatives know what you feel strongly about.
Core Interaction: Feeling of power (a dopamine rush), you have DONE something.

Susan Labandibar (Activist Afternoons, Swing Left)
Reaction to Pulse
VERY compelling: the orange button is like a "sanity button." Instead of read and feel powerless, it's read and FIX (do something). I can imagine using it like 5 or 6 6 times a day).
It needs to be quick. I am just TOO busy. I need to click and move on. If I don't have a dollar easily available, I'm not going to give the homeless guy a dollar.
The comments section of articles are gross, with tons of trolls. This would give some ability to see people who agree, like minded.

Consider going HYPERLOCAL in a socially active community (Cambridge Day, Backyard Cambridge)
-
Biggest reaction: there are a BUNCH of useless buttons on the news. Finally a button that will help me EASILY give 1$ where I think it should go.
-
Connections
Backyard Cambridge (Amira, use Susan's name), they are REALLY into Civic Engagement and are connected to the Mayor
Rebecca Riccio of Northeastern, Social Impact Lab (also a local Resist leader)

Arjun (Bob Massie)
Ideas
News Orgs will want to know how users are responding to the article (these insights are SUPER valuable)

Creates a Brand New Playing Field (changes the game): Helps us break away from MSM and MSPoliticians
-
Reaction
-
We feel isolated in our opinions, and our nuanced perspectives
-
We would need a personalized dashboard and Pulse could recommend politicians, groups, meet ups according to our prefs.
This will help with TRANSPARENCY #
