Detailed interviews with child and family (full physical assessment, height/weight, use of diagrams
Suspected child abuse and neglect meeting is held within 24hrs of admission (decision made if need for a formal strategy)
If risk of serious immediate harm: agency with statutory powers for protection will apply for an emergency protection order

Diagnose, treat and document the injuries

To provide when consent is given, a verbal or written report to child protection and the police

If consent unobtainable, examine only if medical emergency exists
If suspect abusive head trauma (neuro imaging, opthalmic exam, skeletal survey)

It is expected that all members of team have a minimum basic awareness in child protection and response to maltreatment
