Police Violence against Black Women
Why police violence against Black women is important
Sexual abuse towards Black women should be important to other women especially because they understand the mental trauma that comes with getting sexually assaulted and may also know other women who have experienced this abuse
people should care about the lack of awareness surrounding police violence against Black women because Black women are humans who deserve respect and at the very least, acknowledgment of the struggles that they face
People of color as a whole should consider the importance of an unfair justice system because the justice system is corrupt and negatively impacts them and/or their loved ones
Black men themselves should take police brutality against Black women because they know firsthand the fear and trauma that authority figures cause
all of the media attention is only focusing on Black men being treated unfairly
national outcry over police brutality and a need for reform
Without understanding each of these different aspects, it will be hard to understand the issue as a whole and even begin to attempt to resolve it
knowledge that I gain from my work will allow me to get a better understanding of what is going on so that I can then spread my knowledge and hopefully raise awareness surrounding police violence against Black women

Violence against Black women going unnoticed within the United States
media coverage focusing solely on police violence against Black men
police violence is also affecting Black women, not just Black men
because of the double burden that they face, their struggles are ignored by men and by non-Black people
people should care about the lack of awareness surrounding police violence against Black women because Black women are humans who deserve respect and at the very least, acknowledgment of the struggles that they face
people will see media covering a certain issue but not consider that the media may not be covering all aspects of an issue
hopefully some changes can be made and Black women could potentially get the attention that they deserve
allow others to understand the importance of recognizing Black women as human being and not disregarding the struggles that they endure.
people like me have been wrongfully led to believe that this is an issue that only affects one subgroup of people

Reasons why police violence against Black women exists
Black women are perceived as violent, sexually promiscuous, and deviant
Black women are not treated as humans because, dating back to the slavery era, they have never been treated as such
Black women are constantly being dehumanized
double burden that Black women face: carrying the invisibility that comes with gender and carrying the negative stereotypes that comes with skin color
negative stereotypes that they have to deal with on a day to day basis
How police violence affects Black women
Meanwhile, Black women are also suffering at the hands of the police whether it is from physical, abuse, or mental abuse
Black women deal with the trauma that comes with losing their loved ones to police violence
blatant disrespect that people of color as a whole receive from authority figures and regular citizens alike
It is important to not exclude a certain demographic of people because it will dehumanize them and make them feel like they are not worthy

These aspects are significant because they all contribute to the conversation regarding Black women and police violence
Attending a predominantly White university has shown me that people who look like me can never fit in because of all of the stares and silent judgment that I receive
