These power failures can last for weeks before they are restored
The roads are damaged and hence are unsuitable for use
Factories and companies are unable to operate due to the lack of electricity
Floods can disrupt the supply of energy by affecting its distribution
This ay result in a loss of employment and income for individuals and companies
Transport infrastructure
During a flood, transport infrastructure can become impassable as they may be submerged or damaged
The force of floodwater is so powerful that it weakens the transport infrastructure
Transport infrastructure refers to facilities such as roads and railway tracks
Cities will spend a considerate length of time and high cost to repair the damaged infrastructure
when roads are submerged or damaged due to floods, people are unable to travel to work and tourists are discouraged from visiting the city
This leads to an overall reduction in production, employment and profits
Damage to machinery and equipment
As such, factories are unable to operate at full capacity and suffer economic losses
Companies lose profits and have to spend money to buy new equipment
The damaged machinery and equipment parts under the water will be damaged (their motors and other electrical components)
