Circulatory System AKA Cardiovascular System.
BLOOD VESSEL
Arteries
Transport oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body
has a thick and muscular wall
Capillaries
smallest of the body's blood vessels
distribute oxygenated blood from arteries to the tissues of the body
transport deoxygenated blood from the tissues back into the veins
Veins
Transport deoxygenated blood back to the heart
The largest in the body is called Vena Cava
Has much thinner walls compared to arteries
HEART
The heart is divided into two parts. The right atrium and ventricle. The left atrium and ventricle.
Two circulations for two different functions
Pumps blood throughout the whole body
Pulmonary Circulation
Blood flows to the lungs and back to the hear again
From the heart, pulmonary arteries carry the blood to the lungs
Oxygenated blood returns to the heart by pulmonary vein
Systematic Circulation
Returns deoxygenated blood from the body back to the heart
Carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the body
BLOOD
White Blood Cell
Colorless
Does not contain Haemoglobin
Limited lifespan of a few days although it contains a Nucleus
Irregular shape

Small amount of non-granular cytoplasm
Produces Antibodies
Phagocytes
Granular Cytoplasm
Ingest foreign particles
Lobed Nucleus
Plasma
Made of 90% water
dissolves : fibrinogrn, prothrombin
carries + dissolves : chloride, hormones, waste products
Red Blood Cell
Constitute 99% cells in the blood
Produced in the Bone Marrow
Destroyed in the Spleen
Transport Oxygen to cells in the body
Platelets
Smallest cell in the blood
Forms blood clot on wound to prevent excessive blood cell
Does not have a nucleus

Transport various substances from one part of the body to another
Protects the body against disease carrying organisms
Forms blood clots to prevent excessive blood lost
Regulates body temperature
