character evidence: refers to a person's general propensity or disposition for honesty, peacefulness, and violence
civil cases

Three forms of character
1) reputation (witness must establish he is aware of hte reputation of hte party in the relevant community
opinion (witness must establish that he has sufficeint knowledge to form an opinion about hte particular trait
specific acts (when character is an essential element of hte trait, specific instances of that person's conduct may be offered as well)
