4 Models of Tech Integration
SAMR
SAMR allows for teachers to try and achieve the next step in the ladder when creating assignments for students. From substitution to augmentation to modification to redefinition.
This tool was created to share a common language
Closely related to Bloom's taxonomy and is divided into two parts. The bottom part of the ladder focuses on enhancing learning while the top focuses on transforming student learning.
SAMR has to do a lot about mindset and where teachers want to get with the lessons. The modified lessons can help students with engagement.
TIM
Table goes from conventional to complex. Very easy model to follow in the classroom.
This can be used as the general framework from K-12.
In my opinion this is a great tool because it mostly evaluates the lesson as opposed to evaluating the teacher.
As we move to the right of the chart, it gets more student centered. The teacher begins to serve as a facilitator of technology for the students. Students are encouraged to do more hands on things as well as become actively engaged.
TPACK
All categories support one another. One cannot function without the other. Just like a tripod. Those categories are Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. Combined, all 3 of them make them the core.
TPACK helps teach new content. 2. Helps reinforce new content. 3. Shows understanding.
A teacher must know how to incorporate technology as well as know how to teach the content. for TPACK to work.
TPACK changes or looks different with different ages in students. For example, using it in elementary is completely different with using it in high school.
HACK
Great when incorporating mobile technology in the classroom because it gives students choices.
Involves depth of knowledge as well as Bloom's Taxonomy which is useful for the teacher to know how to advance into a more student centered classroom.
This model goes from teacher centered (highly structured) to student centered. Students are able to take ownership of their learning with this model. It "releases control to the students".
Cultural changes need to occur when using HACK because teachers need to learn to be facilitators and allow creative choices from all students. The learning in the classroom goes deeper in learning.
