Transportation in Humans
1. Blood
-
Plasma transport food, CO2 & nitrogenous wastes in dissolved form
-
-
-
-
-
-
3. Working of the Heart
Oxygenated Blood from Lungs --> Pulmonary Veins --> Left Atrium ( Relaxes then contracts) --> Left Ventricle (Relaxes then contracts) --> Aorta --> To all parts of the body
Deoxygenated Blood From Upper Body/Lower Body --> Vena Cava Upper/Lower --> Right Atrium (Relaxes then Contracts) --> Right Ventricle (Relaxes then contracts) --> Pulmonary Aretery --> Lumgs for removal of CO2 & oxygenation
Ventricles have thick muscular walls compared to the atria which are thin as the ventricles have to pump blood to all parts of the body
-
4. Heart Chambers
-
This is useful for animals such as birds and animals who constantly use energy to maintain their body temperature
-
-
-
Blood is pumped by the heart to the gills where it gets oxygenated and then it passes directly o the rest of the body
-
Thus blood passes through the heart twice in one cycle in vertebrates. This is called Double Circulation
-
6. Blood Capillaries
On reaching an organ or tissue, the arteries divide into smaller & smaller vessels to bring blood in contact with cells
