Should Everyone Go to College?
The Return of Investments for college education have considerable variations.
These calculations suggest that public schools tend to have higher ROIs than private schools, and more selective schools offer higher returns than less selective ones (Owen & Sawhill 213).
It is actually happening in the real world. One cannot land a job not because of his competencies, but it is because of the name of the school he graduated in college.
There are high school graduates who earn more than bachelor degree holders.
According to census calculations, the lifetime earnings of an education or art major working in the service sector are actually lower than the average lifetime earnings of a high school graduate (Owen & Sawhill 216).
This tells that a person needs to think the reason why he wants to finish college. Is it to get higher paying jobs or just wanted to get a degree?
The benefits of college education may not outweigh the costs.
With tuition rising faster than family incomes, the typical college student is now more dependent than in the past on loans, creating risks for the individual student (Owen & Sawhill 212)
This is true. If a college student's family experience financial difficulties, college education will only add up in the burden of the family. Otherwise, the student avail full scholarship.
Two years are better than four.
Community College provide the same academic experience big schools offer.
"Just follow anyone of the 1,655 road signs, and pop your head inside - yes, they let anyone in - and there you will find discoveries of a first independent film, a first independent thought, a first independent study"(Addison 256).
This can be an eye opening for the society and for the employers. The name of the schools should not be the basis for employment but of the competencies he acquired from the school
