VGA Port
Mainly used for connecting computers with your equipment.It is a female 15-pin D-sub port.The 'D' shape ensures that VGA cables will only fit one way round. It is often coloured blue or black.
Serial Port
A serial communication interface through which information transfers in or out one bit at a time (in contrast to a parallel port).Usually identifies hardware more or less compliant to the RS-232 standard, intended to interface with a modem or with a similar communication device.
Parallel Port
A type of interface found on computers (personal and otherwise) for connecting peripherals.Parallel ports send multiple bits of data at once.
Pin: 8 data, 4 output control, 5 input control, 8 ground.
USB Port
A standard cable connection interface for personal computers and consumer electronics devices.USB ports allow USB devices to be connected to each other with and transfer digital data over USB cables. They can also supply electric power across the cable to devices that need it.
Firewire Port
Along with USB, Firewire (also called IEEE 1394) is another popular connector for adding peripherals to your computer. Firewire is most often used to connect digital camcorders, external hard drives, and other devices that can benefit from the high transfer rates (up to 480 Mbps) supported by the Firewire connection.
Ethernet Port
An Ethernet port (aka jack or socket) is an opening on computer network equipment that Ethernet cables plug into. Their purpose is to connect wired network hardware in an Ethernet LAN, metropolitan area network (MAN), or wide area network (WAN).
CPU
The electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions.The term "CPU" refers to a processor, more specifically to its processing unit and control unit (CU), distinguishing these core elements of a computer from external components such as main memory and I/O circuitry.
Graphic Cards
An expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display (such as a computer monitor).Frequently, these are advertised as discrete or dedicated graphics cards, emphasizing the distinction between these and integrated graphics. At the core of both is the graphics processing unit (GPU), which is the main part that does the actual computations, but should not be confused as the video card as a whole, although "GPU" is often used to refer to video cards.
Hard Drives
An electromechanical data storage device that uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve digital information using one or more rigid rapidly rotating disks (platters) coated with magnetic material. The platters are paired with magnetic heads, usually arranged on a moving actuator arm, which read and write data to the platter surfaces.
Optical Drives
A disc drive that uses laser light or electromagnetic waves within or near the visible light spectrum as part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical discs. Some drives can only read from certain discs, but recent drives can both read and record, also called burners or writers. Compact discs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs are common types of optical media which can be read and recorded by such drives.
