Plot
Telemachus calls a council the next day. The first one to come up to speak is Aegyptius. He honors Telemachus for stepping into his father's shoes.
Telemachus speaks of the loss of his father along with the destruction of his home that the suitors took over.
Antinous blames the fact that the suitors are at his house because his mother will never chose a suitor.
Two eagles attack the suitors. A soothsayer claims that this is a foretelling of how Odysseus will return and the suitors will face death if they do not leave.
Disguised as Mentor, Athena encourages Telemachus that his journey will be great. Telemachus goes to his home to gather materials and Athena gathers a crew.

Plot

Zeus and Athena discuss the idea of letting Odysseus free from the captives of Calypso and to get his son to look for news of his father's return
Athena disguises as a family friend and meets with Odysseus' son, telling him that he believes his father is alive, that he must remove the suitors, and that he must gain a reputation and seek news of his father's return. He see's he spoke to a god.
Telemachus sends his mother to his chambers because she dislikes the bard's music. He also tells the men seeking his mother to leave.
Characters

Odysseus ~ A man kept captive by Calypso. More sensible than other humans and makes more sacrifices than men.
Athena ~ A goddess. Helps set Telemachus off to find his father by disguising as Mentes, a family friend.
Telemachus ~ The son of Odysseus. A baby when he left. He is timid before he comes in contact with Athena then takes control in his household. He sets off the find the man believed to be his father. When first confronted with the idea of his father, he is embarrassed by him being the unluckiest, but then accepts the idea of his father.
Penelope ~ the wife of Odysseus. She sadly waits for her husband's return. May men try to court her to gain her wealth, but she does not accept.

Theme
Love and Marriage ~ From the beginning, I can see that Penelope loved Odysseus. She awaits the return of her lost husband and gets saddened by the music that reminds her of him.
Child and Father ~ When Telemachus did not know who his father was for sure, he was separated by the idea of Odysseus, but when his father was confirmed, he became loyal to him and the idea of finding him.
Notion of Justice ~ Zeus approves of Orestes killing his wife and mother. Revenge to balence out justice.
