What caused the civil war?
If slave states had the majority in the senate or the Confederate States won the Civil war would there be slavery today?
Could the slave states and the free states come up with a final solution for power in the senate?
Main Ideas
The Kansas Nebraska Act
However, this only leads to conflict. Both sides fight and kill eachother.
Both of the states are in the Louisiana purchase land.
Stephen Douglas settles on putting in place popular sovernity.
Bleeding Kansas was a mini war the decided weather the state was free or not.
Two states join the union Kansas and Nebraska. However, their is a debate in power in congress.
Abraham Inaugural
Lincolns Inauguration was in March 4, 1861
After that 6 other slave states seeded from the Union . These states were Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. Then, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas and Virginia they formed the Confederate States of America.
Before his Inaugural South Carolina seeded from the union fearing that Lincoln will abolish slavery.
This sparked the civil war.
Abraham Lincoln went up against 4 other candidates and he won the most votes.
The Compromise of 1850
It also brought the fugitive slave act.
The purpose of this comprimise was to give a "solution" weather how many free and slave states are in the union.
What this comprimise brought was 4 new states. They were Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
Mexico sold some of its land to the federal government in exchange for 10 million dollars.
This compromise was also made by Henry Clay
Henry Clay was a senator and thats how he updated the fugitive slave act.
The Missouri Compromise of 1820
The compromise brought with it the 30'36N parralle. This meaning that anything bellow the line is a slave state
This wan not a final solution it was just a compromise.
The compromise was placed to balance the senate to have equal free and slave states.
This left a ton of unorganized territory to the north.
Henry Clay Proposed this in 1820 obviously.
John Brown
John Brown was a abolitionist and he wanted to end slavery by force.
He raided this town in order to gain control of it and its weapons.
People Believe that this was the start of the war.
What he did with the guns was to give it to slaves so they can escape.
John Brown Raided Harper's Ferry in order to seas it in 1859.

We will work on our questioning and problem solving skill through group discusions talking about the civil war
