According to the IPCC, the Earth's surface has been warmer in the last three decades than any previous decade since 1850. It is likely that the warmest 30 years of the last 1,400 years were in the Northern Hemisphere in 1983-2012. The linear warming trend of the earth and sea surface in the period 1880-2012 is estimated at 0.85 ° C in the current report. In the 2007 IPCC Assessment Report, the warming trend for the period 1906-2005 was still given as 0.74 ° C.
Global snow and ice deposits have decreased significantly. For example, in the period 1979-2012, the Arctic sea ice averaged between 3.5 and 4.1%, and between 2002 and 2011, Greenland ice melted six times as much as in the previous 10 years. The permafrost soils of most regions are also warming up steadily. The only exception is the Antarctic sea ice, which has recently seen a slight increase of 1.2 to 1.8% per decade over the period 1979 to 2012.

Global warming may be the greatest cause of species extinctions. A 1.5°C rise may put 20-30% of species at risk of extinction.
