Social pedagogy is about influencing the lives of children and young people - it is training in, participation in and understanding of social life. Not in any deep, therapeutic way, but in terms of skills for the participation in various social contexts, the ability to master different situations. And whilst psychologically based practice would point at mental health as a central aim, social pedagogy is instead oriented towards inclusion in a community. Mental health is of course also important, and it can be seen as an intermediate aim.
