TERMS OF THE TREATY
Ireland would be called the irish free state.
The free state wouldnt be a republic.Part of the common wealth dominion
3.Three naval ports would be British. Lough Swilly, Cobh & Bear Haven
There would be a governor general (kings representative)
Boundary comission was set up to decide the border between northern Ireland and the republic
The treaty divided opinion.Which left the country divided and resulted in the civil war.

CIVIL WAR
Causes
1.The Treaty caused division in the country.
2.The irregulars took over the four courts.
3.The majority of people voted in favor of the treaty in the 1922 general election.
4.The irregulars in the four courts kidnapped general O'Connell. This gave Collins an excuse to attack the irregulars.
Main Events
28th of June: Collins fired artillery at the four courts.
Irregulars retreated to Munster where the support was strongest and they set up the Munster republic.
12th of Augusto 1922 Arthur Griffith died of stroke. 10 days later Michael Collins died in an ambush.
In August 1922 William T Cosgrave became the new head of the free state goverment.
Kevin O Higgins passed the special powers act. Which allowed them to execute irregulars for offences such as having a gun.
RESULTS
30 million pounds worth of damage had been caused.
Almost 600 people had been killed.
Nation had been left divided.
Cumann na nGael and Fianna Fail were formed.
