        animal instinct represents the feeling of both lust and rebelling against the system - showing Winston's underlying motive of being with Julia is not out of pure love but as an act against the Party
  - - - Repetition of pronouns "i" and "you". Winston's trust for Julia is displayed as he confesses his past intentions.
    - - 'white, youthful' is symbolic for purity, showing how Winston's perspective of Julia has changed - she is symbolic of hope for him - a symbol of rebellion and going against the Party
        compared to his prior description of 'dark-haired girl' which sounded sinister - juxtaposition of colours which represent his view of her
    - - Winston picks up the flowers when he arrives in the Golden Country. He was not forced to do this and picking flowers does not aid the rebellion. Therefore, this act reveals that their relationship has potential for hope and emotions, not merely an act of rebellion.
        
        Human qualities - finding a connection, Winston quickly becomes involved in the emotional aspect of the relationship while Julia is merely interested in the physical side of the relationship

  - - - the bird is not singing because of some social obligation but rather out of pure emotion - unlike the people who live in Winston's world
    - - thrush is free, whilst they are not - living in an oppressive society
    - - the music moved him and all speculations out of his mind - decided to stop thinking and just feel which leads to his sexual desire for Julia
