Household waste management and people's attitude for recycling and waste management
Introduction
Nowadays household management is a big dilemma.
Refuse landfill is the still main waste management.
Different people have different attitudes towards waste management and some factors such as ages, education level affects people's attitudes and behaviors.
This paper gives some literature review of the current household waste management and people's attitudes in different areas.
Manin body
Waste landfill ( the most popular household management in the USA)
Reason 1. it costs less and there are many unused lands.
Reason 2: these landfills are tucked away and built in the rural areas where few people would find them.
Reason 3: high technologies like liner constructions and are used to cover the rotting smell to make it seem “green”.
The focused problem: landfills are not long-term solutions because it doesn’t seem toxic right now, many problems may happen in the future, but people don’t realize it or care about it.
The generation and collection of recyclable household solid waste in Beijing, China
The current situation: the collecting capability of recycling centers is not adequate and the urban residents lack awareness of the solid waste.
some solutions: 1. build a creative recycling mode like by using an application on cell phones to recycle household solid waste.
The Chinese government should enhance waste recycling education programs for children.
Korean household waste management and recycling behavior
The current situation: because of the rapid population growth and serious environmental problems, the Korean government implemented a volume-based waste fee system to manage household waste.
people's attitudes affect recycling and waste management behavior
people's waste management behaviors are influenced by the cost which people need to pay for waste taxes rather than "proenvironmental attitude".
some solutions: 1. environmental laws should be made to control people's waste management behavior.
young people and poor families should be educated about waste management.
