Black comedy can be described as dark, sarcastic, humorous, or cynical stories that help us examine otherwise ignored, darker, serious, pessimistic subjects such as war, death, or illness.
Some tropes used in dark comedy include "Crosses the line twice" comedy which is when something is so offensive it becomes funny, and "Kafka Komedy" which is when anything the protagonist does is guaranteed to fail.
In the cult classic dark comedy Heathers (1989), elements of psychological horror, and mimics Preston Sturge comedies.
