TYPE OF BONDING
BRASS
METALLIC BOND :
:star:Force that holds atoms together in a metallic substance
:star:Outermost electron shell shares space with the corresponding electron on a neighbouring atom to form a molecular orbital
:star:Delocalized : electrons can move freely within these molecular orbitals, and so each electron becomes detached from its parent atom.

BARIUM SULPHATE (BaS)
IONIC BOND :
:star:Transfer of valence electron(s) between atoms
:star:Metal loses electrons to become a positively charged cation
:star:Nonmetal accepts those electrons to become a negatively charged anion
:star:Require an electron donor, often a metal, and an electron acceptor, a nonmetal.
PROPERTIES :
:<3:Do not conduct electricity in a solid state but they do conduct electricity in the molten state.
-
:<3:Dissolve in water and are insoluble in solvents like oil, petrol, kerosene, etc.

ALUMINIUM PHOSPHIDE(AlP)
COVALENT BOND :
:star:Sharing of electrons between atoms
:star:Occurs primarily between nonmetals
:star:Arises from the electrostatic attraction of their nuclei for the same electrons
:star:Fforms when the bonded atoms have a lower total energy than that of widely separated atoms.
PROPERTIES :
-
:<3:Insoluble not polar solvents like water however, dissolve in non-polar solvents, like benzene, toluene, etc.
