Feeling vs. Acting
Just because you feel a certain way doesn't mean you must act on it. Lashing out in anger is unproductive, negatively venting can lead to increased anxiety.

Physiological changes: Body temperature can be associated with different emotions. Ex) fear = hot head and torso, cool extremities.
Verbal Expressions: Putting emotions into words can help manage them more effectively. The typical human emotions are anger, joy, fear, sadness and disgust
Emotional Contagion (pg 237): Emotions can spread from one person to another. Important to realize our emotions have an effect on those around us. Ex) being composed in your boat can lead to a more relaxed and powerful flow, versus panicking and rushing.
Minimizing debilitative emotions: monitor emotional reactions, notice the activating event, record your self talk, dispute your irrational beliefs, change your self talk
