World affirming NMR's
differ from all religious groups and lack some conventional features of a religion: such as collective worship
however, like religion, they offer members access to spiritual or supernatural powers: such as scientology

non exclusive, tolerant of all religions but claim to offer extra knowledge to unlock ones own spiritual powers to over come problems like unhappiness or illness
most are cults, followers often customers rather than members. they carry out normal lives and entry is through training
most successful of movements: scientology has about 165,000 members in the UK
World Rejecting NMR's
Examples: 'moonies', children of god, manson family

members live communally, restricted contact from outside world: movement controls all aspects of their life
