Skimming
Reading a text quickly to find out the general theme, topic and meaning
No need to read every word
Useful for pre-reading or texts that doesn't need detailed attention
Scanning
Reading a text quickly in order to find specific information, eg: names or dates
Useful for answering True-False questions
Focus is more on the lexis than general information and to ignore irrelevant information
Reading Comprehension
Literal
Asks 5W questions
Look in the text to find answers in the story
Inferential
Readers can understand the underlying meaning
Answers are not located in the text, but there are clues
Hypotheses are made
Reorganisation
Organises ideas and information
Evaluation
Requiring response indicating that an evaluative judgment has been made.
Appreciation
Involving all the above related dimension of reading , and requiring to be interesting and emotionally, (affectively) sensitive to the ideas and information in the reading selection.
Appreciation includes both the knowledge of, and the emotional response to, literary techniques, forms, styles, and structures
