Strengths
-
Quick, easy and economical to carry out as secondary data can be used
Quantitave data is used - no subjectivity and can be easily repeated and data can be plotted making it more reliable.
We can use data to form results that may be unethical to gain from experiments e.g is there a link between smoking and cancer

Peer Review
The assessment of scientific work by others who are specialists in the same field. This ensures that any research intended for publication is of high quality
-
The Process
- Researcher will submit their research paper to a journal
- A group of unknown experts in the same field will be selected to review the paper.
- Expert will read the unpublished paper checking for any mistakes e.g. in methodology, results and conclusions or previous research.
- They will either say: It can be published, it needs review before publication or that it is rejected.
- Changes are made and it is reviewed again
-
-
Weaknesses
Peer Reviewers may purposefully not put the work through to publish or award the researcher minimal funds because they may also be researchers and conduct the same thing
PUBLICATION BIAS - Editors tend to publish work that has significant or positive effects as this increases the credibility. They wouldn't want to publish research where the results are insignificant.
They also do not like to publish work that has be replicated but this is bad as it gives a misrepresentation into the current state of psychology.
