The Experience of Andreas: Lecture's slide Week 4, slide no. 21

An American guy Andreas did an American style presentation in Berlin, Germany. He used a large scale of technical skills to explain the networking's system and American humour to active the atmosphere. Additionally, he tried to behave like a friendly person in American film through the ways of loosening the tie, sitting and talking. However, he did not have an idea that the audiences were not American but German. The values and behaviours of German are different from the American, they have a more strict and serious attitude toward things and person. And they would keep a distance to ensure the individual intimate exist. What the Andreas show was not acceptable enough to them.
People have different opinions about one same stuff. For Andreas, what he did is what he believes is right. However, these German perfer a more serious speech to a funny show by an American.

When some people met others who from other culture, they will compare their own culture with other culture. However, Some people don't realize their own culture well, because they don't have many chances and practices to look at their own cultures, so they don't know how to describe their own culture, because they just are used to do it before.

Peter didn't comprehend how much the
landscape had changed. Second, he was
unable to make his behavior consistent
with that of everyone around him.
And third, when he recognized that the
arrangement wasn't working, he became
disheartened.

Peter's three difficulties correspond to thither components of cultural intelligence: the cognitive; the physical; and the emotional /motivational. Cultural intelligence resides in the body and the heart, as well as the head.
