Carbon Tax
Anthropogenic Climate Change
Scientific Consequences
Acquire more evidence about how much carbon emmissions being reduced impacts/starts to slow climate change
Ethical Consequences
Affect on lower SES citizens, potentially increasing cost of living in the short term (Callan, Lyons, Scott & Tol 2009)
Ethical dilemma of lowering standard of living for the poor VS increasing standard of living on a global level
Although Canadians have an enormous impact on anthropogenic climate change, our neighbours to the south are large contributors as well and won’t follow this initiative under a climate change denier
Economic Consequences
Bigger job sector in clean energy alternatives and technology
Every citizen will have to deal with the increased cost of living (Callan, Lyons, Scott & Tol 2009)
Personal Consequences
Changing lifestyle to “vote with our dollars” for clean/environmentally friendly companies
Environmental Consequences
Less emmissions and pollution on such a large scale will have unbelievable impacts
Stabilize planet before things get worse
Social Consequences
Cost of living would be impacted
If there is no carbon tax enforced and we keep seeing sea levels rising, we could expect that coastline communities would need to be evacuated and relocated
Legal Consequences
Legal consequences of business not following the law (reporting lower emissions than they are producing)
As a activist, I might worry/think about legal implications of protesting government decisions to not impose a heavier carbon tax
