Chapter 12 (12-3)
Relaxation Period
-
-
-
-
when ventricular pressure drops below atrial pressure, AV valve opens
-
-
-
Atrial Systole
SA node fires p wave, atria contract, and remiander of ventricular filling occurs
-
atria reflex,ventricles depolarize (QRS complex)
-
Heart Sounds
Introduction
these sounds can be heard through a physicians stethoscope. They represent the closing of heart valves, and therefore help in diagnosing any problems occuring in the valves
Sounds
lub = closing of AV valves (ventricular systole), loud and long and opening of SL
dub = closing of SL valves (ventricular diastole), short and sharp and opening of AV
Significance
if the closing of the valve cuss is incomplete, some blood may leak back = murmur
