While woman at the time usually didn't have much power, Viking women had LOTS of power. They cared for their children, and spun cloth (making cloth wool!!). They stayed at camp, cooking meals and caring for the wounded. They could own land and ask for a divorce. When the womens' man was away, dead or ill, (all very common) they took full charge of running the house and farm(s).
