Requirements for emergency-release helicopter cargo basket
Be able to increase the payload that can be transported in cargo baskets
Attachment can withstand over 200lbs PLUS friction
Attachment must be strong made with a strong metal (i.e. corrosion-resistant stainless steel
The pilot must be able to release the cargo basket from the cockpit
The release switch must be easy to access
The release switch must be covered by a plastic shield
The release switch should be grouped with other emergency controls
The pilot should incorporate the release switch into the autorotation maneuver
Once released, it is crucial that the cargo basket does not touch the helicopter
The tail rotor & skids are the hardest components to avoid
The cargo basket needs to be ejected outwards before dropping
The safety of people, animals, buildings, vehicles, etc. below must be ensured
The cargo basket descent should be controlled
A drogue parachute would slow the descent
