If a person has too much alcohol, they become intoxicated, this is when the body is poisoned by alcohol and they're physical and mental control of themselves is reduced.
Alcohol stays in your system until your liver can metabolize it, so how long these effects will last vary on how much you drink

Long term Effects

Increase in blood pressure, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke
Buildup of fat cells in the liver, which can lead to cell death
Damage to the digestive lining of the stomach which causes ulcers and stomach cancer (this can also lead to destruction of the pancreas)
