What changed? (later years)
England was much less powerful than other countries e.g. France and Spain
Jousting accident- painful leg. No longer able to play sport. This made him angry and volatile.
The older he got, the more frustrated he became regarding power
Did not have a son until much older
Puts on a lot of weight!
Executes two of his queens and many others
The Reformation
It started because Henry wanted to annul (divorce) Catherine of Aragorn (she did not have a son)
The Pope would not allow this which annoyed Henry. Henry needed the Pope's permission.
This changed England from a Catholic to a Protestant country
So Henry broke away from Rome and became head of the English Church (gaining more power)
