Identify key point 1:The marine pollution is becoming more and more serious
Source1:According to Gnenlle Weule(2017)“Around 8 million tonnes of plastic went into the ocean in 2010”. (paragraph 3)
Source2:Roger Harrabin argues that in recent years, the amount of plastic waste are still increasing, especially in China (Roger Harrabin, 2017)
Source3:Reddy states that “Unless action is taken soon to address this urgent problem, scientists predict that the weight of ocean plastics will exceed the combined weight of all of the fish in the seas by 2050”.( Reddy, 2018)
Connection: the source 1 and source 2 explained the seriousness of marine pollution by analyzing the individual and the general, and the source 3 explained it by predicting the devastating impact the plastic will take in future.
The combination of the three is a good illustration of the main ideas
Identify key point 2:Plastic waste have devastating impact on ocean life
Source 1:“For example, dense monofilament fishing line could last for up to 600 years, whereas a thin plastic bag getting bashed around in the surf could last just months.” (Gnenlle Weule, 2017)
Source 2:More and More turtles die by eating plastic waste that may make them hard to control their buoyancy. (Roger Harrabin, 2017)
Source 3:Fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals can become entangled in or ingest plastic debris, causing suffocation, starvation, and drowning.” (Reddy, 2018)
Connection; The three sources give different marine life that are impacted by plastic waste in different way, which can make the main idea become more persuasive .
Specific key point
The plastic waste already dumped into ocean is hard to be recycled.
Source2: But along the high water line millions of the fragments of plastics are mixed in with dried sea grass, too small to be collected.” ( Roger Harrabin, 2017)
Plastic waste are difficult to be naturally degraded in the ocean
"Plastics are very hard materials so they are hard to break down unless you can burn them."(Gnenlle, Weule)
Connection : These two specific ideas give me more details about why the plastic waste can take devastating impact on ocean, which make me get better understanding about my topic.
General Problems
Source 1:Plastic is so cheap, which mean we are hard to reduce the use of plastic
Source 2:Too much waste in China
Source 3:Plastic waste can encourage the growth of pathogens in the ocean.
Solutions for general problems
We have to progress through the UN because this is a truly global problem
We should find other material to replace the plastic.
We should increase fee associated with it we would produce and consume less.
