CDS (Child directed speech): the specific way in which the caregiver talks to a child, including features such as... frequent long pauses, slower clearer speech, grammatically simpler sentences, repetition, more questions as well as the answers to those questions, diminutives, use of nouns rather then pronouns etc : :
Expansions: where the caregiver might develop the child's utterance to make it more grammatically complete.
Recast: the grammatically incorrect utterance of a child is spoken back to the child but in the correct form.
Mitigated imperatives: an instruction given in such a way that it does not appear to be a command but a more gentle suggestion.
