Planet Earth
Earthquakes
What are they?
a sudden violent shaking of the ground, typically causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action.
-
How are they measured?
Earthquakes are measured by their magnitude and intensity. This is done through a seismograph and recorded on the richer scale where 1 is the lowest and it goes up from there.
Volcanoes
What are they?
a mountain or hill, typically conical, having a crater or vent through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapour, and gas are or have been erupted from the earth's crust.

Tectonic Plates
Boundaries
Divergent
Divergent plate boundaries occurs under the ocean floor and causes a large crack in the surface. This is the primary cause of continental drift
-
Convergent
Convergent plate boundaries are locations where lithospheric plates are moving towards one another. The plate collisions that occur in these areas can produce earthquakes, volcanic activity, and crustal deformation.
What are they?
A large, irregularly shaped slab of solid rock, generally composed of both continental and oceanic lithosphere.
