**The Awakening of Edna Pontellier
Edna realizes she isnt happy in her life or her role.
She meets Robert Lebrun
She realizes that she has feelings for someone other than her husband.
Meeting Robert and spending time with him is the first time she realizes she could love another man.
Edna's family goes to Grand Isle, an island off the coast of Louisiana
While being able to be husband free during the week she starts to realize the freedoms and joys she missing in life
She begins to not care as much and has no concern as to what her family feels.
She returns home and at first is back in her routine but she quickly begins to change and starts doing what she wants.
She meets new friends and does what she wants. She is saddened when Robert leaves for a business trip feeling that they were getting to close.
She wonders what changed with Robert but tries to move on. She meets the pregnant Madame Ratignolle and the old woman Mademoiselle Reisz who makes her weep while playing the piano.
Her new friends bring her new happiness she didnt she could have.
She becomes close to her father again but its short lived when she refuses to attend her sisters wedding.
She feels upset and sad that it didnt work with her father but she continues to change into what she wants to be.
Adding to her depression her family leaves her. Leaving her alone and to do for herself.
Surprisingly she enjoys the freedom meets a new man named Arobin.
She sleeps with Arobin leaving her with a bunch of emotions except regret.
Though she never forms a actual attachment to Arobin she stays with him, just continuing the pain that will eventually come.
Edna Runs into Robert "Mademoiselle Reisz' apartment, and their meeting is somewhat strained and awkward"
Her and Robert start to fling again finally admitting their love for each and kissing but the reunion is cut short by Madame Ratignolle's baby birth.
She leaves Robert to be Ratignolle's side but returns to find him gone for good leaving her feelings of freedom and escape gone and nothing left.
When Robert is gone Edna is left with Emptiness and know her final move in life.
She returns to the Island And walks naked towards the sun and the ocean.
"She thinks triumphantly about how she has escaped her children and their claim on her and continues to swim until she is exhausted."
Edna slowly drowns with her childhood memories going through her mind.
