Brainstorming: My argument's purpose

Goals

Plausible Reactions + Consequences

Not Plausible Reactions

People will learn about the Pope's speeches and their importance to environmental activism.

Unlikely to change their religion.

  1. Audience understands the context:

Pope - what he did (encyclical + speeches), why he did it, where he spoke, his background, the church's background

Response - how the media, general public, and governments reacted

The differing perspectives - environmentalists, anti-climate change, liberal, conservative, religious, non-religious

  1. The audience is provided with a brief explanation of all scientific topics.

Climate change + Environmental activism

Human effect on planet, what exactly is causing a problem, how it will effect the planet/the population, and who will be effected.

  1. The audience recognizes the possible positive benefit from following the Pope's plea to action.

This requires I can persuade them of the impact on/of:

How negatively the lower classes will be effected by climate change.

Why acknowledging climate change is not a war-inducing, world ending, government destroying concept.

The positive benefits of reducing our physical and chemical waste, and how it does not have to ruin our lifestyles. (i.e. the only choice is not going off the grid or creating 0 waste)

And to tie it back to the Pope, why having such a religious voice speak out is shocking and potentially incredibly beneficial for the planet and the population.

People will learn about the human impact on the environment and why addressing our waste can benefit the entire planet and population.

People may be less opposed to the idea of liberals and conservatives agreeing on a controversial issue.

People may have a greater interest in addressing their lifestyle and understanding their own impact on the planet.

Consequence: They may be interested in further researching current environmental activism or find the videos and transcripts of the Pope's speeches.

They might choose to research the environment further and really delve into what climate change is. They may even change their opinion about the issue.

The hatred and chaos between the two parties may decrease, resulting in less money wasted on back and forth laws and debates, and more on implementing successful policy both sides can agree on.

They may attempt to reduce their own ecological footprint, and become more aware of not only their own impact, but that of their community.

Unlikely to change the entirety of their political views.

Unlikely to change their moral compass/ideologies.
