Towns are eroding away, which will require millions for the government to relocate. The people have been asking for the funding, but it is slow in coming.
Alaska, sue to it's isolated nature is the perfect state to develop renewable energy research. Obama, during his tour, gives $4 million to Alaska for this purpose.
The resources of Alaska are vast, unfortunately including petroleum. Which creates conflicting interests between the value of the people of Alaska and the resources and energy opportunities.
US Government Policy
US government has just recently finalized the Clean Power Plan which includes regulations on emissions from power plants and more renewable energy funding.
Obama has also approved Shell to commence with further drilling in Alaska, while closing off oil exploration in other areas of Alaska.
This conflict of interest between keeping the US dependent on oil and focusing on the more sustainable energies is causing turmoil in the scientific community and general population.
The media has released several different controversies, consequently created social media storms, drawing the attention away from climate change.
Obama renamed Mt. McKinley to Denali, which faced mixed levels of support, but stirred up a small media storm.
Five Chinese warships appeared off of the cost of Alaska, drawing questions over the true reason Obama was on Alaska. This gave heavy ammunition for anti-climate change leaders to be vocal about Obama's agenda.
Articles have also been released about the competition between the US and Russia for the arctic land and resources. Drawing attention again to the economic issues and not the climate change.
This branch is often the least talked about branch in the general media source. Academic sources are highly detailed and knowledgeable on the topic, but places like Twitter and YouTube are hyper focused on the multiple controversies and agendas that have been embedded in this tour of Alaska.
Obama's initial goal was to show a clear picture of what is happening in Alaska and why it is important to recognize the incredibly fast changes and why they will have an international effect.

The government has spoken through climate change policy, the speeches in Alaska and highly publicizing their events.
Mediums include YouTube, news media, and even social media.
Dozens of newsgroups pushed out stories hours after Obama's speeches. As it was highly publicized, several different controversies came out several hours after the first wave of articles.
Environmentalists have been frustrated with the US environmental policies for years. They have been trying to advocate for more funding and support from a conflicted government.
They recognize the effort from Obama, but they have dissapointed with the lack of action.
