IEP Meetings
What is done during the meeting?
Parents right are read so they know what they can do to contest. Translators are available to ensure effective communication
IEP is/or maybe is revised as child makes progress and faces new challenges. (also is revised as new teaching strategies & technology is available)
Present level of performance (PLOP), annual goals, and individualized supports and services should (but really must) be covered during each IEP meeting.
The meeting ensures that the IEP does not assume the mold of "one size fits all". It makes sure that the individualized education plan does in fact reflect the childs needs and strengths/
Ways to involve families in IEP MEETING

Team meetings
what is an IEP?
Adminsitrators must uderstand that multiple meeting may be nessecary,
IEP is a legal document & its composition of the team who creates it is mandated by federal law
Team can be large/small depending on needs of the child. But HAS to include 1 administrator.
I personally was on an IEP my whole school career. The team I had included the vice principal, my teachers, therapist, and school guidance counselor and my family and I.
The major cornerstone of the IEP process is the students family.
The team should consider the parents/guardians as the most invested in the students
(Parents take active role)
key points
Parents have the most say in what is done for their child.
Adaptations are defined in the meeting in two ways: 1) acccommodations: provide learning w/o changing the learning standard
2) modifications: do change the learning standard based on their individual need.
Members of IEP meeting: school leader/principal, Sped teacher, general ed teacher, family of student, specialists (O.T, PT., p.e teachers, etc)
The disabilties or the label used in defining eligibility do NOT define the child or tell who that child really is.

IEP Implementation
This should occur as soon as possible after the team meeting!
Once you reach higher education, you will no longer have an IEP; the laws of IDEA 2004 do not apply once the student is in college.
once the child turns 16 , the IEP shifts into focusing on preparing the child for the real world.. Some transition services that can be included are instruction, vocational training, and life skills practice.
The length of an average IEP meeting ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour
