Organisation (
Hazards- A hazard is anything that has the potential to cause injury or harm to an employee. The organisation is responsible for the elimination or minimization of any potential hazards. Hazards must be identified and then the risk must be assessed,
Safety- Safety is paramount in an organisation and they must have systems, rules and procedures in place to ensure that staff are safe at work. It is the companies responsibility to have in place the correct training and education for staff and to have all hazards and risks identified. Safety at work will contribute to a healthy workplace,
Risks- Once a hazard has been identified it is important for the organisation to conduct a risk assessment to identify what the risk of injury/ill health and what the consequences would be to the organisation and its employees. If the organisation does not carry out a full risk assessment then the probability for injury is increased. This may leave them open to litigation and possible prosecution in the future. ,
Humans- All the humans in an organisation are responsible for ensuring a safe working environment such as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment that is provided. Humans also make decisions everyday about how work is carried out and they may choose to go against the company OH&S policy which will increase the risk of hazards causing injury to themselves or others. ,
Health- The health of employees is paramount to a successful organisation. Therefore all organisations need to be accountable, to a degree, for the health of their employees. They must ensure that they have a healthy and safe working environment in order to minimise any harm to personnel. Organisations may also provide employees education about their health. ,
Work- A workplace must be a safe environment for all employees, if an organisation is not safe for employees to work in then productivity may decrease. By ensuring there are adequate systems and good conditions are an inherent requirement in the workplace the organisation will contribute to healthy employees which in turn will increase their productivity. ,
Controls- The organisation must ensure that there are adequate controls in place to minimise the risks of any hazard causing an injury to a person. This control can be established in a number of ways such as trying to eliminate the risk all together or by ensuring adequate process are in place to minimise any risk such as providing personnel with safety equipment. All hazards must have some sort of control measure in place and this is the organisations responsibity)
