), what's my brand
( I want to make fabrics that i want to use. I like collections to include bold graphics along side quieter all over patterns. My collections make a to create that combine bold graphics, patterns that make a statement and but will still play well with others. A bit of a sense of humour.the statement is - drawing matters to me. It allows me to discover new imagery, it allows me to think, the daily practise of drawing allows me to survive and figure out what the hell I'm doing for the rest of the day. my personal story is all I know is I had to start drawing again. I used to be an artist. and then I wasn't, this project allows me to draw for a couple of hours a day creating the source material for textile design. why textile design. because there's something about my drawing thses days that lends itself to pattern. and I want ot create objects that wcan live iwith everyday. and I want to support mself for the next couple years. , hand drawn, energetic, trys to shake things up a bit. tries to interpret trends in a new way. something original that stands out. that wants to be heard. that shows the artist's hadn.
my brand is fro people like me. women, creatives, people who want to inject some fun into their everyday surroundings. who like hand mades things. who enjoy supporting local artisans. people who appreciate art and creative exploration. that are bold and ufn and explore the possiblilites of digital printing. its an artistic project not just decorative. as I draw new themes a re drawn out. I don't want to just make pretty things. I want there to be some substance to it. I like that its an everyday object. it can change the mood of a room. inset something that feels rich and hand drawn. insert a certain playbullness. a loose line, a spill. something a bit modern. I don't know. my brand is about survival in a way. I just want this to work. all I know is I had to start drawing again. and drawing everytday to get the process started again. I think they work as patterns. I think the colours work to a degree. digital printing allows for experimentation - printing on demand allow me to see what people like. what works and what doesn't. withoug a huge investiment. so this is an eperiment. to see if a daily drawing practise can be maintained and developed by a selling lampshades and pillowsso what is my brand. - its not really youth is it. its me. 4o something. the fresh bolness you see at ikea but with a emphasis on inky dirth drawing techniques not eaxily printed using traditional wet processes. .
and the problem is I don't know what my brand is yet. hand drawn, hand made , artistic exploration, everyday objects, inserting some hand drawn elements into decor.I'm an artist that uses drawing as a way to explore. Explore shapes, textures, compositons.. blah blah blah. And it so happens that the things I've been drawing lately lend themselves nicely to textile deisgn. I make lampshades because...lines shapes textrures that come out of this kind of daily play become the motifs and patterns you see on my products. I'm inspired by ... my target market are people like me. people who like to insert something bold and unique into their surroundings. something fresh and fun and bold where you can get a sense of the artist's mWonderers have an innate curiosity.
