What is Mascot?
'The Orient mascot is a mythical creature called a Wyvern, which is a cross between a dragon and a serpent. Two of the creatures appear on the club badge. They were chosen as they link the founding of the club to the Pacific & Orient (P&O) Shipping line and the clubs proximity to the City of London which has a dragon on its crest' - Daniel Roper, the mascot for Leyton orient FC for just over eight years
'The mascot is there predominately for the children, to bring a ‘fun’ side back to football. I used to do more with the kids clubs than anything, promoting healthy eating and after schools clubs. Of course when things go well you are regarded as another representative of the club' - Gary Hutchinson, once upon a time known as Poacher the Imp from Lincoln City.
'I think Mascot is just a bit of fun and a light introduction to sport for youngsters, whether they play the game or get them interested in sports. Having a mascot gets people in a good and happy mood before and during the game, it let opposing fans take the Micky out of us rather than shouting their frustrations at the opposition fans. Our mascot is called Boomer, he is a Staffy bull dog as we are from Staffordshire, and black and white as the Port Vale colors.' - Errol Yorke, mascot Boomer since 1994
'A mascot is a person, who is there to entertain the crowd, etc. And to make people smile' - Leonard Berry, mascot at Bradford city football club for 19 years from 1994 -2013
