Harald I was the first king to unite the petty kingdoms
of Norway into a single kingdom. Not much is known
about him from contemporary sources as much of what
is written about him is the work of historians centuries
later. His name "Fairhair" allegedly came from his refusal
to cut his hair for ten years until he conquered Norway.
His kingdom endured strife between his sons. When
